Discover new packing modes, upgraded orientation tools, and the highly anticipated Scene Outliner.
RizomUV, one of the leading UV mapping solutions, has just received a major update. From smarter packing strategies and enhanced orientation systems to long-requested features like the Scene Outliner and the ability to save defaults across sessions, RizomUV 2025 aims to give artists more control and consistency at every step of the process.
Although speed wasn't the primary goal, since the previous CPU version was already fast, the developers focused this release on resolving persistent overlap issues, particularly with stacked islands. The new GPU packing system brings a notable speed boost by fully leveraging modern hardware. It reportedly handles even extreme cases, like packing over 500,000 islands into a single tile, in under a minute on current GPUs, delivering more precise, stable, and reliable UVs.
Both GPU and CPU packing now benefit from a new strategy selector with four modes: Efficient, Padding Perfect, Pixel Aligned, and Pixel Art.
The new Align UV to 3D feature orients islands based on their original 3D orientation. Completely rebuilt, the algorithm now delivers smarter results by recognizing key shapes and ignoring noise. Users can target specific directions (+U, -U, +V, -V), with a customizable fallback axis for consistent alignment. The updated system also improves the Trimsheet feature, thanks to this new orientation logic.
For multi-tile/UDIM workflows, group islands can now be automatically packed into tiles.
Also, all UI preferences (like shading mode, similarity type, unwrap updates) and model properties (such as UV set resolution, scene units, packing padding) can now be saved as defaults for future sessions or file loads, and reset anytime to factory settings.
RizomUV 2025 introduces a variety of other new features centered on UI and usability, along with several bug fixes. For the full list of updates, click here.
