The Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain disagrees.
Rockstar
When GTA developer Rockstar ordered its workers to come back to the office, it claimed it was done to prevent leaks. Whether or not it's true, the studio has recently fired 30-40 employees who, according to the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB), were members of the union or tried to unionize.
The IWGB believes this was done to kill any developments in this direction, but Rockstar's parent company Take-Two claimed the individuals had been let go "for gross misconduct, and for no other reason."
Now, the companies say that "gross misconduct" was leaking confidential information in a public forum.
"Last week, we took action against a small number of individuals who were found to be distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum, a violation of our company policies," a Rockstar spokesperson told Bloomberg. "This was in no way related to people’s right to join a union or engage in union activities."
The IWGB, however, doesn't believe that. Alex Marshall, president of the union, reacted by saying that Rockstar is "afraid of hard-working staff privately discussing exercising their rights for a fairer workplace and a collective voice. Management are showing they don’t care about delays to GTA 6, and that they’re prioritizing union-busting by targeting the very people who make the game."
