See How Maya's Blend Shapes Can Be Used For Timelapse-Like 3D Modeling

Check out a new captivating demo shared by Cauldron 3D.

Earlier this month, 3D Modeler and Animator known as Cauldron 3D showcased a highly detailed recreation of Howl's Moving Castle from Studio Ghibli's eponymous animated movie, continuing the series of Ghibli-inspired CG models.

More recently, the creator offered a closer look at the modeling process behind the castle's entrance by sharing a mesmerizing timelapse-like demo, attached above, which has amazed thousands on Twitter. Despite appearances, the creator has repeatedly clarified that the video is not a recorded timelapse, but was made using Maya's Blend Shape, a function that lets you change the shape of one object into the shapes of other objects, deforming its surface into the shapes of other surfaces.

Previously, the artist also unveiled a similar-looking timelapse-style demo showcasing a 3D model of Rei Ayanami's Evangelion Unit-00 from the Neon Genesis Evangelion series:
