Freelancers and small studios can create their masterpieces in Houdini cheaper with the new rental options SideFX included in its plans. Houdini Workstation Rentals allows artists and companies to rent annually up to 5 licenses at a lower price instead of buying perpetual licenses. The options include Houdini Core, Houdini FX, and Houdini Engine.
Designed for modelers, lighters, character riggers, animators and game artists, Houdini Core also includes features such as compositing and motion editing. Scenes created in Houdini FX can be opened and rendered in Houdini Core which makes it an ideal lighting tool for your VFX.
Houdini FX combines superior performance and dramatic, ease-of-use to deliver a powerful and accessible 3D experience. With its procedural node-based workflow, Houdini FX lets you create more content faster to reduce timelines and enjoy enhanced flexibility in all your creative tasks.
Houdini Engine lets you load Houdini Digital Assets into other content creation apps such as Autodesk Maya or game editors such as Unity and Unreal Engine. Houdini Engine also gives you command-line access to Houdini to batch process renderings and distributed dynamic simulations.
For these categories of creatives, node-locked perpetual licenses of Houdini Core will cost $1,995 or $995 with the Annual Upgrade Plan and Houdini FX is $4,495 or $2,495 with the plan. Node-locked annual rental licenses are $1,340 for Core, $3,195 for FX, and $499 for Houdini Engine. Note that the Annual Upgrade Plan is included in the purchase price for the first year and must be purchased in subsequent years to keep the software up-to-date.
For comparison, floating licenses for studios wishing to buy Houdini Core start at $355 for a 30-day rental and end at $2,995 or $1,495 with the Annual Upgrade Plan for a perpetual license.
