The long-awaited update for the company's procedural 3D software is finally here.
SideFX has officially released Houdini 20, a massive update to its flagship procedural 3D software Houdini that enhances the application's major tools, including Karma, Solaris, KineFX, and others, and brings tons of new features for 3D Artists and Developers to try out.
Earlier, SideFX announced that the Houdini 20 release greatly improves the software's Karma renderer. The update brings a new fur shader with medulla support, hex tiling, physical sky, and advanced features such as distributed multi-frame and multi-shot rendering. Karma XPU, designed to work on both GPU and CPU, also received additions like a fog box, Nested Dielectrics, Absorption, Dispersion, and support for Cryptomatte.
In addition, SideFX has bolstered its support for MaterialX, the open standard for rich material and look-development content, adding material linker, material catalog, AMD MtlX library as well as thin-walled transmission for MtlX Standard Surface.
There are also new animation features in the software, including projectile motion, sticky collisions, a new Selection Sets animation environment, and video reference in the viewport.
