Sisir: New Guide-Based Hair Grooming Tool

It's free to use for both personal and commercial projects.

Created by Sisir, the tool of the same name is a professional hair grooming solution built for Character Artists. It lets you draw guides right on your characters, shape hair, preview results with real-time physically based rendering, and export the result, all completely free.

The developer says that shaping hair in Sisir feels like working with real hair. Guides respond to physics as you style, with changes kept non-destructive so you can adjust the groom at any stage. Sliders update the result in real-time, and masks painted directly onto the mesh control hair distribution and length. If you already have a groom you want to reuse, you can transfer it to another character without rebuilding it from scratch.

Hair guides and grooms can be exported in PLY and Alembic formats, allowing them to be used in the DCC software of your choice. Sisir also has its native scene format for saving and managing working files.

You can find tutorials on the official YouTube channel to help get started with Sisir. It has the potential to become an alternative to solutions like Ornatrix or the built-in grooming tools.

Sisir runs on 64-bit Windows and requires a DirectX 12-compatible GPU for the Render module. USD and FBX export are currently not supported.

It's free to use for both personal and commercial projects, and the latest version is available through the official Discord server.
