Sketchfab Adds NoAI & CreatedWithAI Tags

Additionally, the platform will prohibit the usage of assets labeled with the NoAI tag as inputs for generative AI programs with the next Terms of Use update.

3D modeling platform website and asset marketplace Sketchfab has introduced new NoAI and CreatedWithAI tags to designate whether generative AI technologies were used or not to create a particular artwork.

From now on, users will be able to add the "NoAI" tag to their models, and once added, an HTML meta tag will be applied to the page, marking it as disallowed for use by generative AI programs. Users can add the tag manually and apply it to all their past and future uploads by checking the box marked "Add 'NoAI' meta tags to all uploads" in the settings, thus adding the "NoAI" HTML meta tag to all of the models.

Furthermore, on March 23, 2023, Sketchfab will "forbid licensed models marked 'NoAI' from being used in datasets for, in the development of, or as inputs to generative AI programs" as part of their Terms of Use update.

Among other things, the upcoming update will also require models that are made available under the Creative Commons license or the standard Sketchfab License Agreement to be tagged as "CreatedWithAI" if they have been made with generative AI programs. The new ToU update is being designed to "help provide increased transparency around how models have been created" and "help other community members to find what they are looking for more easily."

Similar tags were also recently introduced by ArtStation, responding to December 2022's massive protest against AI-generated images.
