Sony Acquires Insomniac Games

Sony has decided to acquire Insomniac Games, the well-known studio behind last year’s bestseller Spider-Man on PS4. Insomniac will now be an exclusive PlayStation developer.

Founded in 1994, Insomniac was independent for 25 years, developing series like Ratchet & Clank and Resistance. The studio also worked on the open-world game Sunset Overdrive with Microsoft.

The studio also has several VR games for Oculus, like the upcoming Stormland — their Oculus Rift exclusive. Spider-Man, a PS4 exclusive, is the studio’s most successful game, of course, which sold over 13.2 million copies according to a Sony press release. Well, it’s now safe to say that we’ll see a sequel for PlayStation 5.
