Asher Zhu has shared the results of an experiment with fluids in Unreal Engine 5.
Technical Artist at the Unreal Engine team Asher Zhu has shared a cool game prototype that was set up in Unreal Engine 5. The prototype is called Sparkle and Spree and features a moving blob of slime as its playable character. The author has also demonstrated the abilities of the slime, in the showcase video, we can see the blob jumping around, changing its shape and form, squeezing through fences, and devouring some unfortunate adventurers.
Much like the rest of the prototype, the slime was created in UE5. "Passing data between Fluidsim and CPU with minimal latency is tricky but super fun to play with once you made it work," commented Asher. According to the author, a lot of breakdowns related to the project will be posted in the near future. You'll be able to access them on the author's Twitter page.
