Axios Gaming's Stephen Totilo has recently shared a brand-new newsletter, providing a compelling overview of how the Japanese game market might change in the near future. According to Totilo, development studios Square Enix, Sega, and Konami plan to drastically change their ways of doing business in order to grow in the current ever-changing environment.
Based on the companies' reports to investors over the past two weeks, the giants of Japanese gamedev are looking for new ways of creating games. The newsletter states that Square Enix is considering courting outside investors for its development teams, meaning external companies might soon have a say in the development process of SE's games, Sega is planning to attract new audiences with a new "super game", set to be released in 2026, and Konami is placing their bet on the recently-announced new Silent Hill games.
"Between the lines: All of these companies are searching for growth amid a stagnating Japanese market," commented Totilo.
