Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic Won't Be Hundreds of Hours Long
"Bigger isn’t necessarily better."
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is a game many fans of the franchise can't wait to get their hands on. Alas, they'll have to wait, although not long: its director, Casey Hudson, promised to release it before 2030, as he's never taken more than 4 years to develop a title.
"Making games that take five or seven years – none of us want to do that," he said in an interview with Bloomberg. And no, the team of former BioWare developers at Arcanaut Studios won't use AI to speed up the process because Hudson thinks AI is "creatively soulless," and it's "hard to imagine where it’s actually helpful in the process."

Unlike some AAA projects, Fate of the Old Republic will not take you a hundred hours to complete: "Bigger isn’t necessarily better. "If I’m excited about a game and then I find out that it’s 200 hours long — even if I have no ambition to actually finish it – I wonder, if I put 20 hours in, will I even be out of act one? A lot of players just want to play something and finish it."

But don't worry: in true BioWare fashion, the game will be replayable thanks to multiple storylines.
To make sure the title gets where it wants to go, GreaterThan Group, a new holding company led by former NetEase executive Simon Zhu, has $40 million in the bank and funding commitments for roughly $60 million for the projects it's backing.
Hopefully, money and passion are enough to bring Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic to where fans want to see it.
