Veteran BioWare Developers Are Behind Star Wars: Fate Of The Old Republic
A lot of Arcanaut Studios' core team previously worked on KOTOR and Mass Effect.
Even though it was just a teaser, the reveal of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic was still one of the biggest moments at The Game Awards 2025. The Star Wars franchise is in a pretty interesting spot right now: the recent movies and shows haven't really worked for everyone, apart from Andor, but there's a lot of hype building on the gaming side of things.
Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is a single-player, story-driven action RPG set in the Old Republic era, and it's being developed as a spiritual successor to the beloved Knights of the Old Republic. Apparently, for Star Wars Day, Arcanaut Studios, led by former KOTOR and Mass Effect Director Casey Hudson, updated its website to introduce key members of the team working on the new game.
There's a lot of BioWare legacy in there. The Arcanaut team includes Dan Fessenden as Senior Technical Designer, Melanie Faulknor as Director of External Development, Pascal Blanché as Art Director, Caroline Livingstone as Director of Production and Performance, and Ryan Hoyle as CTO. Fessenden, Livingstone, and Hoyle all worked on Knights of the Old Republic and also on the Mass Effect games. Faulknor and Livingstone also worked on Dragon Age, and Livingstone even worked on Neverwinter Nights.
Casey Hudson shared a post on LinkedIn saying:
"Our team members working on Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic come from many different development backgrounds. Some were with me in 2003 on Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and throughout the creation of the Mass Effect Trilogy. Others have cut their teeth on industry-changing games at the likes of Microsoft, BioWare, Epic Games, Ubisoft, EA, and more.
We're united in purpose, with a desire to live and breathe Star Wars and return to this beloved galaxy for a new adventure."
There's still very little information about Fate of the Old Republic, including any kind of release window, but with that much KOTOR talent involved, some are already hoping for a return to the series' best days. Arcanaut has also posted some job openings, you can check them out here.
