Stardew Valley Meets Welcome to Night Vale & Junji Ito Style in This New Cozy Horror RPG

Farm, seek the Old Gods, and deal with tentacles.

If you ever wondered what would happen if Stardew Valley and Welcome to Night Vale had an appropriately creepy baby, first of all, something is wrong with you, and second of all, there's already a game that can satisfy your curiosity: Welcome to Elderfield.

Aside from the name, purple eyes all over, and news reports, the influence of Welcome to Night Vale is in every corner of this little town: creatures that we usually consider monsters live peacefully among humans and will help you maintain your farm without anyone batting an eye.

This "cozy horror RPG" has you not only water plants but also fight entities in a classic RPG Maker (or Pokémon) style. Oh, and you'll probably have to figure out what to do with tentacles inhabiting the town.

Nice pixelated visuals live alongside unsettling images of the townsfolk that will remind you of horror artworks of Junji Ito, Hideshi Hino, Umezz, Ochazukenori, Kanako Inuki, Suehiro Maruo, and Shinichi Koga.

Choose your difficulty and "die, learn, farm, and forage… Then die again."

One thing I'm not a fan of is Welcome to Elderfield's obvious borrowings: the whole logo being extremely reminiscent of WtNV is not a nice touch, the quality stars on crops look like they were taken directly from Stardew Valley, and I'm pretty sure I've heard some of the game's sounds there as well.

Aside from that, it has nice, dark lo-fi music, and while I haven't been playing for long, I see myself spending several nights in the game.
