Starfield Producer Stores Bounty on Sandwich Spaceship

Jamie Mallory on platypus ships and sandwich space piracy.

HMS Platypus

Bethesda is known for letting players drift from the main, serious campaign and do something crazy and silly. For example, collect sandwiches or build bizarre (and hilarious) spaceships – something Starfield's producer Jamie Mallory is known for.

In a recent blog post, Mallory talked about what she likes doing in the upcoming game, saying one of her favorite pastimes is creating unique ships, such as the HMS Platypus revealed in June.

She shared that the idea for this ship came from her friend, who "has an undying love for these quirky creatures." But this is not the end of Mallory's creative endeavors. While she enjoys making animal-like ships, there is a much more appropriate vehicle for a sandwich pirate. You guessed it, you can traverse the galaxy on a giant floating sandwich – a project Mallory seems to be very proud of. Called The Griller, the spaceship is "pure comedic gold."

"It reminds me of those moments in games where you unlock these outrageous pre-order outfits or items for your character, only to find them amid a serious cutscene where someone has tragically perished, or the menacing villain makes their grand entrance. It's absurd, it's hilarious, and it never fails to bring a big ol' grin to my face."

Unfortunately, we didn't get to see it, but I'm sure it's magnificent.

Now, what would you do with such a ship? Of course, collect some sandwiches, a lot of them. Mallory prefers to keep them on her ship instead of putting them somewhere safe as it "adds a slight element of risk during those thrilling dogfights."

I expect to see more unusual ways to pass the time in Starfield when it finally arrives on September 6. It's not going to be fishing or racing in on-land vehicles, but hopefully, there is something even more fun than stealing sandwiches and building amazing ships.
