3D Generalist & Graphic Designer known online as internetboy.png demonstrated the process of creatinng a striking spikey chain in Blender.
Starting with a Taurus mesh, the artist forms a chain link and then selects faces on its edges to add spikes later. This is a "trial and error" process, so you can experiment with how many faces you select, as well as try out their different locations. Then, you can duplicate the shape and rotate it to make a lifelike conjunction of two links and, back in Edit mode, extrude faces along normals to make a base for spikes.
Later in the tutorial, the artist explains how to create a magnificent transparent effect by manipulating colors and lighting and uses the Cycles renderer.
