Stop Killing Games Supports Dutch Consumer Group in Lawsuit Against Sony's Digital Shift
Stichting Massaschade & Consument launched a collective lawsuit against Sony over alleged high prices on the PlayStation Store.

The Stop Killing Games initiative supported the Dutch consumer group Stichting Massaschade & Consument lawsuit against Sony following the company's decision to end physical disc production.
In a description of a YouTube video, which you can watch below, Stop Killing Games noted that SM&C needs to demonstrate to the court that it genuinely represents gamers rather than simply claiming to, pointing to its global support base as evidence.
SM&C filed a lawsuit against Sony in June, alleging that the company's control over PlayStation Store pricing has led to inflated prices, costing Dutch PlayStation players an estimated €435 million since 2013. Lucia Melcherts, Chair of SM&C, shared before in a statement to Wccftech: "No discs means no second-hand market and no alternative to the PlayStation Store, so from 2028, Sony alone decides what a game costs and even how long you are allowed to use it."
"Have you ever noticed that digital PlayStation games are more expensive than physical ones? Pretty weird, right? You'd expect digital games to be cheaper. So, what's going on? Sony has a monopoly on digital game sales on PlayStation. Your PlayStation is designed so you can only buy digital games through Sony's own store. And once Sony stops selling physical games in 2028, you won't have any choice at all. That's how Sony shuts out the competition, and you end up paying way more – on average, up to 47%," SM&C claims.
Stop Killing Games recently celebrated the Protect Our Games Act being passed by the California State Assembly but soon after received news that the European Commission declined to introduce new legislation that would require video game publishers to give players ways to keep playing after server shutdowns, or to offer refunds in such cases.
