Stunning 3D Recreation of Zazu from The Lion King

Juan Carlos CR is back with a new artwork.

Juan Carlos CR, a talented 3D artist known for his creative takes on beloved characters, showcased his new WIP render – a recreation of Zazu from Disney's 1994 animated film The Lion King.

The artist shared a time-lapse of modeling the character in Blender, starting from a low-poly blockout and progressing to a portrait faithful to the original. He explained that he uses sculpting mode to move the mesh around, though the mesh itself is still a heavily subdivided cube, similar to proportional editing but with more control.

The creator also shared that he models all the shapes separately, leaving them disconnected as separate objects, although this makes the rigging phase more complicated.

Recently, we featured Juan Carlos CR's take on The Lion King's Scar, also created with Blender, and a couple of days ago, the artist shared the next step of working on the character – a viewport rig test:

Also, check out Juan Carlos CR's recreations of Tarzan's Clayton and Prince John from Robin Hood, alongside a take on a beloved symbol of artists' first artwork in Blender – a donut:

Juan Carlos CR's portfolio also includes animations featuring original characters, such as this cinematic piece and a scene with a girl choosing her morning coffee:

To learn more about the artist's workflow, check out our interview with him, in which the creator covered the production process of his Digital Stop Motion Animation project, featuring Sid from Pixar's 1993 Toy Story:
