Presumably, Allegorithmic veterans will take the lead within Adobe's 3D team.
After 22 years at the helm of Allegorithmic – first independently and later within Adobe – and three decades in the CG industry, Substance 3D creator Sébastien Deguy has announced he will soon leave Adobe and step away from 3D texturing entirely, saying he is "closing this chapter of [his] career and life."
In his statement announcing the departure, Deguy described this chapter of his life as an "extraordinary ride" and thanked the Substance 3D team, partners, creators, and users for making it so.
While it remains unclear how his departure will impact the renowned texturing software suite, Deguy noted in the comments that the team stepping into leadership includes individuals who "have been here for a long time too and they should be thanked as much as me for the quality of the tools," suggesting that other Allegorithmic veterans will be taking over the reins of power at Adobe's 3D team.
"It is hard to summarize what this journey means to me and of course I am deeply proud of what my team and I have built, of the impact our tools like Substance have had on so many digital artists," he said. "But what struck me most, as I shared the news of my departure over the past weeks, was what people chose to remember: Not the Oscar or the Emmy, not the business numbers and the entrepreneurial success of growing and selling a company. But the culture, the values.
Nearly every message I received spoke of a shared feeling – that Allegorithmic and the 3D group at Adobe were special places, shaped by care, trust, and a human-first spirit. That’s what stayed with people. To all of you – team members, collaborators, partners, creators, customers, and friends (more often than not, a mix thereof): Thank you, thank you for making this ride unforgettable. I’ll carry this chapter with me forever."
As for Deguy's own future, the maestro shared that he'll be moving on to something he's excited about, which likely points to his musical career. For those unfamiliar, Deguy has been releasing music under the alias Matterflow for the past decade, and according to Deguy himself, he "may or may not have some more tracks ready to be released soon." Whether Substance 3D creator actually plans to fully focus on his passion for music or not will likely be revealed sometime this week.
