Surreal UE5 Game About a Giant Policeman Gets a New Mechanic

The new mechanic floods the entire playable map the longer it takes for you to escape.

If you're someone who, like me, is a fan of weird indie games that push the boundaries of normalcy with their story, characters, and/or gameplay features, chances are you've already heard about Militsioner, an upcoming first-person surreal immersive runaway simulator currently in development at the TALLBOYS studio.

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game is described as a Kafkaesque immersive sim with an open non-linear story and immersive gameplay. You step into the shoes of an ordinary person falsely accused of a crime, with your main objective being to flee a post-Soviet-style town as fast as possible.

The unique aspect, however, lies in the presence of a gigantic policeman with emotions and a discernible moral compass who oversees the entire town and monitors your every move, ready to apprehend and detain you should he catch you engaging in any illegal activity.

Recently, developers took to Twitter to unveil a behind-the-scenes demo introducing a brand-new gameplay mechanic designed for Militsioner. Dubbed The Flood, the novel feature adds depth to the game's time element, prompting players to be mindful of their time spent navigating the town.

As the player continues their escape, the policeman's enormous weight causes the ground to collapse beneath, sinking both the town and the giant deeper into the forming swamp. Consequently, previously accessible areas may become submerged, while the rooftops and upper levels of buildings in the town become reachable. At the moment, it remains unclear whether this new mechanic will be included in the game by default or introduced as an additional mode.
