The move comes as Blender prepares to expand to graphics tablets and Apple's iPad.
As Blender Foundation prepares to expand its free and open-source 3D software to Apple iPad, Microsoft Surface, Huawei MatePad, Wacom MovinkPad, and other tablets as part of its mission of making 3D technology accessible to everyone, graphics tablet maker Wacom has shown growing interest in the application as well, pledging an annual contribution of €240,000 to Blender.
Having previously been Blender's Corporate Gold sponsor with a €30,000/year contribution, the manufacturer has now increased its support by a staggering €210,000, becoming the software's Corporate Patron – the highest tier of the Blender Development Fund. At present, only four companies are listed as Corporate Patrons – Epic Games, Pico, Qualcomm, and now Wacom as well.
Speaking of Blender on tablets, previously it was announced that iPad Pro with Apple Pencil will serve as the initial platform to test this concept, with Android devices and other tablets planned for future support. Live demos are expected to air during Blender Conference 2025, taking place September 17-19, 2025.
Some handy enthusiasts, however, are already attempting to "launch" Blender on the iPad, with Digital Artist Trung Nguyen recently demonstrating a desktop version of Blender "running" on Apple's tablet via Moonlight, an open-source game streaming client that allows you to use your PC applications on almost any device:
And prior to that, Reddit user notrealadnan shared a clip showing Blender actually running on a Xiaomi Pad 7 via a Blender Android port, in development since last July and led by a Blender user known as epai:
