The Environments of Final Fantasy XV

Square Enix has published a video, showing some of the environments, we’re going to see in the upcoming Final Fantasy game.

Seems like Final Fantasy XV has been in development forever. The game is being developed by Square Enix. It features a band of young men, fighting various types of monsters and saving the lovely damsel in distress. But we’re not here to talk about it’s story and battle system. What we’re interested in the environments, which were shown in the recent trailer.

The game features a huge open world, which has a bunch of different areas. The artists worked on a huge number of different environments, which have a ton of various looks. There are big metropolitan areas with skyscrapers, vast open areas with mountains, valleys and occasional forests, lush tropical forests with beautiful vegetation. The team obviously invested a lot of manpower and money in creating those huge landscapes.

In some cases colossal magical structures dominate the environment, showing stark contrast in scale with the main characters. Every environment has some sort of road in it, which is used to transport the characters around the world (they are driving a luxurious futuristic car).

Environment designers also created vast dark industrial structures, which look very similar to DOOM.

However the biggest star of the whole trailer is the amazing aristocratic city, which looks like Venice. It has canals, boats, beautiful restaurants and great architecture.

Final Fantasy XV is being created with the help of Square Enix patented game engine. The tool is very versatile and allows to build huge worlds with weather effects, time of day change and other cool tricks.
