Is it being held back to coincide with the release of the TV show's second season?
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered was officially launched on PlayStation 5 in January this year as an exclusive. While PS5 players are happily enjoying the adventure with its improved visuals and extra features, PC players are eagerly waiting for it to arrive on their platform.
Earlier this year, a rumor suggested that the PC port would be announced in April. However, as we can now see, the rumor was just a rumor, and the announcement never came. The Twitter user who started this rumor has since had their account completely removed.

Now we have a new update that brings mixed feelings. The good news is that the development was reportedly completed around seven months ago, so it's ready to go at the right time. The downside is, we don't yet know when this right time is, which means the wait is currently indefinite. This is according to reliable data miner billbil-kun’s article on Dealabs (translated from French to English by Google):
"…according to our information, the title The Last of Us Part II is indeed under development on PC. This had even started since at least 2021. Furthermore, and this is the most important information in this article, we estimate that the development of the game is well finished, and this dates back to at least November 2023."

This suggests that game development could have started way back to 2021 and was likely finished by November of last year. As for why the PC announcement has not yet arrived, they continue to speculate:
"Thus, we can wonder about the reasons for such a lack of release so far. Especially since the game was already released in a remastered version in January 2024 on PS5. Could a simultaneous release with season 2 of the HBO series scheduled for 2025 be the cause?"
Looking at the timeline of the first game and its TV show, The Last of Us Part I was released on PS in September 2022, and the first season of the TV show premiered in January 2023. So it's plausible that the PC release of the game might be delayed to avoid releasing too far ahead of the second season of the TV show.
