The Next Chapter of Stellar Blade Will Have a New Protagonist

And the studio didn't abandon their style for the characters.

At Summer Game Fest, SHIFT UP announced Stellar Blade: Blood Rain, a standalone sequel to 2024's Stellar Blade. The new game is self-published, unlike the first game, which was published by Sony.

This time, the protagonist's name is Evie, and it looks like the character does more hand-to-hand combat instead of using weapons like Eve, the prior main character in the series. Evie appears to have gloves that enhance her strength. The camera angle also looks different.

The story of Stellar Blade: Blood Rain will occur after Stellar Blade, and it looks like it's set in a completely different setting, maybe even far in the future or on a different planet. In the trailer, Evie appears to be following someone, but then chaos erupts, and we see part of her fighting strategy.

Right now, the game is still in early development, and what we have seen so far might change with time, especially because the trailer sparked a significant amount of discussion online centered around Evie's appearance, with some gamers feeling the character's face implies she is quite young.

According to SHIFT UP's boss, Hyung-Tae Kim, they decided to create a character with a more petite look that can contrast with her combat style. Nonetheless, the studio is no stranger to controversy, as Eve from the first Stellar Blade was the center of debate as well due to her visual design and portrayal, similar to characters like Bayonetta.

To date, Stellar Blade has sold over 6.1 million copies across PlayStation 5 and PC platforms worldwide. This time, Blood Rain is expected to be also released on Xbox, thanks to the fact that it will be self-published.
