Despite the wide criticism regarding the Diablo Immortal monetization model, the game has managed to reach another huge milestone.
The number of Diablo Immortal downloads has surpassed 20 million, Blizzard announced via the game's Twitter account. To celebrate the new milestone, Blizzard said it will be giving out rewards for players to claim. According to the developer, the rewards will include "a Legendary Crest, gold, and more."
The previous update on the games downloads was reported in early June when Blizzard noted that the title had been installed more than 10 million times just a week after its launch becoming "the biggest launch in franchise history."
Still, it's worth noting that downloads do not reflect the number of active players, and the company has not yet publicly disclosed the revenue the game has generated since its launch. However, judging by the data from AppMagic, the title has already earned $77.6 million and reached 13.2 million downloads across Android and iOS.
Since its launch, Diablo Immortal has been widely criticized for its controversial monetization model. However, the new Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra recently tried to defend the game arguing that most players do not spend any money on the game and that its monetization only "comes in at the end game."
