Check out this breathtaking UE-powered scene, created by Michael Gerard.
Unreal Engine Specialist and Environment Artist Michael Gerard has unveiled a great new scene, inspired by The Witcher 3 and made in Unreal Engine, SpeedTree, Megascans, Houdini, and Gaea. According to the author, this scene was inspired by the Kaer Morhen location from the aforementioned game. This scene is a tribute to the game and showcases everything the author has learned over the past 5 years.
"[The Witcher 3] is the game that introduced me to the creation of video game environments. I started my short career by using the assets of the game through the modkit. It was time for me to honor him almost 5 years later with everything I learned since the beginning," comments Michael.
What's more, while making this scene, the author has been posting tips and tricks related to environment art on his Instagram. In these short videos, Michael discusses the optimization of vegetation in Unreal, talks about getting natural shadows, shows how to create water decals, and more. We highly encourage you to visit Michael's Instagram page for more behind-the-scenes information.
Back in June 2021, Michael had visited 80 Level to tell us about new tools that Unreal Engine 5 offers – Lumen and Nanite and how to use them in your projects.
