The Witcher Remake Won't Have "Simply Bad & Outdated" Parts of the Original Game

Fool's Theory is also planning to remove all the "unnecessarily convoluted" moments.

The Witcher remake was announced in October 2022, and as the developer, Fool's Theory, stated back then, the project is being built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5. The studio hasn't shared many details since the announcement, and the only thing known for sure is that The Witcher remake, codenamed Canis Majoris, will be coming after The Witcher 4.

In a recent interview with Edge, Jakub Rokosz, CEO of Fool's Theory and a veteran who worked on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, shared that they don't want the upcoming remake to include "simply bad, outdated, or unnecessarily convoluted" parts of the original game.

Rokosz also mentioned that he didn't get to contribute to the first installment of Geralt's journey during his time at CD Projekt Red. However, he now has the chance to make amends by working on an updated version of the action RPG.

"It always bothered me that I missed the first. I wanted a chance to give it the justice it deserves," he said.

Speaking of excluding all the necessary parts of the first game, he also noted that "first and foremost, we need an honest, down-to-earth analysis of which parts are simply bad, outdated, and need to be remade", along with "highlighting the parts that are great, should be retained, or are direct key pillars that can't be discarded."
