This Embroidered Platformer with Hand-Painted Backgrounds Finally Has a Release Date
It was inspired by the Studio Ghibli movies.
Scarlet Deer Inn is a game that we have been following for a while, and its creation process is one of the most interesting I have ever seen, because every character was physically embroidered in real life.
Now developers have just announced the release date:
The first time we talked about this game was in 2023, and we mentioned that it is being developed by Attu Games, a two-person team consisting of a wife and husband from the Czech Republic.
We also talked about how the game is influenced by Slavic folklore and the Studio Ghibli movies. In 2024, we shared the news about the demo coming out in the summer of that year.
Scarlet Deer Inn is an adventure platformer game that tells the story of Elise, a mother of two who is not precisely ordinary, but neither a hero, and her circumstances will take her to interesting and unusual or dark and terrifying situations.
Check out this before-and-after of a scene one of the developers shared:
She also shared how some of the characters' actions were embroidered, and it looks so fascinating:
In another post, she said that the idea started seven years ago, then five years ago they made the prototype and announced it, and last year the demo came out.
The backgrounds are hand-painted, and the developers also created the music, which is inspired by the Middle Ages, and it was performed on traditional instruments.
It's so cool seeing a game that's fully hand-crafted by two people. You can definitely see all the love and dedication they have put into this project.
The game is set to arrive on July 21, and it will be available for the Switch, Xbox, and Steam, where you can add it to your wishlist.
