This Hand-Drawn Roguelite Will Have You Building Your Own Flying Fortress

You can play the demo!

Castle Away is a run-based strategy game where you build your own flying fortress and take it into battle. Set in a place cursed by demons, you'll explore and find a mysterious crown; when you pick it up, the ground starts shaking, and the surface rises.

You'll have to keep adding weapons and crafting structures in your castle to fight monsters and defeat the Archdemon at the end, liberating the realm from demons. The concept of a moving structure recalls Hayao Miyazaki's Howl's Moving Castle.

Plan your strategies and routes, and defeat all the bosses. Rebuild parts of your castle, collecting materials and creating the best fortress to win the game.

The game features fights against ten different monsters and five demon bosses, plus a variety of towns, shops, towers, shamans, and more. You can explore three regions of the realm with ancient beacons, random encounters, and a semi-procedural world.

One of the developers shared a comparison on Reddit of how the game looked after one month of development versus six months of development.

Three developers are creating Castle Away in Godot: Sim Kaart, who creates the art; René Slump, who designs the mechanics and programs the game; and Matthijs Koster, who handles the audio and music.

The game is set to be released in 2026, but you can try the demo or add it to your wishlist on Steam.
