This Impressive 3D Glove Rig Was Created With Blender in 10 Days

The rig doesn't involve any simulations, only Bone Constraints and Keyframes.

BANNO Yuki, an experienced 3D Animator and Digital Artist, has recently caught the attention of thousands of people on Twitter by showcasing a highly-detailed 3D hands and gloves rig created with Blender.

According to the author, the demonstrated animation was set up without the help of motion capture or simulations, using only Bone Constraints and Keyframes. It took the artist around ten days to make this animation, starting with making the glove rig after the body rig had already been made. The final rig was then used in "Spring Breeze and Body Temperature", a WIP anime-style 3D animation currently being created by BANNO.

"No simulations are used. It works only with bone constraints and keyframes. The influence of bone constraints transitions the transforms targets of the glove's bones," commented the creator. "It's time-consuming, but I like this method!"

To better demonstrate the nuances of the rig, the creator also shared a brief breakdown, providing a closer look at the setup:

And here's the final scene that features this outstanding glove rig:

Earlier, Teun Torenbeek, a Digital Artist and 3D Character Animator known online as Temtor, also showcased an absolutely mind-blowing Blender-made 3D rig created for an Overwatch-themed cinematic.

Set up in just an hour, Temtor's hood rig featured 137 hand-placed Bendy Bones, a neat property that allows one to replace long chains of many small rigid bones in Blender. As stated by Temtor, this uncommon approach to setting up digital cloth had been chosen because it allowed the creator to control everything on the rig at any time.
