This Is Your Reminder That Animal Crossing: New Leaf's World Is A Cylinder
RLG tried out a free-camera mod.
Here's another installment in our ongoing but irregular exploration of classic games' architecture. Nintendo modder RLG is currently working on bringing Animal Crossing: New Leaf town save files to noclip, the website that lets users freely explore maps from a wide range of games. They shared a fascinating look at what the world of the 2012 Nintendo 3DS life sim actually looks like: a rolling log.
To capture it, RLG created a free-camera mod for Animal Crossing: New Leaf in Azahar to test the accuracy of their custom renderer. The "log world" design was introduced in Animal Crossing: Wild World to make the world feel like a tiny planet and avoid rendering distant background elements.
