This Puzzle Platformer Takes You Inside Laptop For Dose Of Pure Y2K Web Nostalgia
Welcome to Snaptic.
If the name sounds familiar, that's probably because the creator behind Snaptic has been posting a few meme videos here and there for a while. But now Snaptic is a full-fledged game, and it hit 240% of its Kickstarter funding goal in just two days. And if you watch the trailer above, you'll probably understand why: the art direction nails that nostalgic early-2000s digital vibe, the gameplay mechanics look fun, and the synth-heavy music sounds nice.
Snaptic takes place inside an abandoned laptop, and it's up to you to figure out the Wi-Fi password to reconnect with the friends you once had. The game features a great mix of physics-based puzzles and platforming, with Anon, the character you play as, able to transform into a marble and magnetize himself to surfaces. The laws of physics are on your side here.
As you venture deeper into the digital landscape, you'll meet a whole cast of eccentric characters, each with their own reasons for wanting to reconnect to the network. Snaptic also promises to tell "a surprisingly emotional story."
The developer cites PS1-era games, Frutiger Aero, and nostalgic home videos as key inspirations behind Snaptic's visuals, and the game's art direction also strongly emphasizes motion graphics and graphic design. Although Snaptic has already reached its funding goal, it still has plenty of ambitious stretch goals planned: one of them involves filming real-life camcorder footage with actors, which Anon and his friends will discover while digging through files on the computer. Other stretch goals include expanded localization, console ports, an animated intro, and more.
