This Shader is So Unusual, Even Its Author Doesn't Fully Understand How it Works

Stencil buffer? Render Texture?

Have a look at this mind-blowing portal-like shader inspired by old-school Windows UI, showcased recently by Reizoko, a Japanese Developer and 3DCG Artist specializing in character and prop modeling for VRChat.

Powered by Unity, the shader effectively makes a character model invisible, allowing one to see it only through floating windows, which the character can also pass through, making the effect even more surreal. The result is so astonishing that even Reizoko, the creator, admits they don't fully understand how the shader works and can't provide a detailed breakdown. It's speculated that a combination of stencil buffer and Render Texture might be behind the setup, but Reizoko hasn't confirmed this, so it's still up for debate.

And here's how the shader looks in VRChat:

At the moment, the author is working on a manual to facilitate the smooth modification, and once it is completed, the shader is set to hit the shelves and become available for purchase. We highly recommend following Reizoko on Twitter so as not to miss any future updates.
