This Slavic-Inspired Game Features a Combat System Based on Ballet Movements
The developers used real-life references.
Take a look at a combat system in an upcoming folklore-inspired hack-and-slash game, TSAREVNA. Age of Tales from Watt Studio. The character performs graceful movements reminiscent of dancing, combining them with combat sequences, as the developers drew their inspiration from real-life ballet.
The character's movements are based on the performance of the real-world prima ballerina from Bolshoi Theatre, ensuring an unusual and authentic combat choreography. As seen from the video, the devs used motion capture technology to bring the idea to life.
This creative decision goes in line with the concept of the game – a dark Slavic fairy tale, where beauty becomes a weapon. The heroine, Tsarevna Swan, fights through a dark Slavic fairy tale set in a world that features enchanted forests, forgotten places, and ancient ruins.

"For us, ballet isn't just a beautiful visual layer, nor is it limited to aesthetic poses and elegant silhouettes. It is the very foundation of how our heroine perceives the world and fights. Her movements must feel graceful yet lethal. Precise yet brutal," the developers explain.
"That is one of the core ideas behind the game: taking something deeply refined and translating it into the language of martial arts, turning every encounter into a mesmerizing performance."
