This Stunning 3D Embroidered Cloth Was Generated From a 2D Image

Cino Lai showcased the power of Substance 3D Sampler's Embroidery filter.

3D Material Artist and Technical Artist at the Adobe Substance 3D team, Cino Lai, has recently unveiled a brand-new project showcasing the power and capabilities of Substance 3D Sampler's Embroidery filter.

For those unfamiliar, the Embroidery filter is Sampler's neat tool that enables the user to quickly convert images into embroidered patches. The patches' appearance can then be easily customized, as users can utilize the application's color management tools to serve as a mask for various materials.

Leveraging the tool, Cino has set up a gorgeous 3D purse model, noting that its embroidered cloth was generated through a 2D graphic. "Nowadays, [Substance 3D Sampler's Embroidery filter] can easily replace a lot of work I have done in Substance 3D Designer when designing embroidery texture in the past, so I can spend more time creating fun tools in Designer," commented the creator.

Cino also shared several behind-the-scenes breakdown images, providing some insight into how the purse was made and showing that besides Sampler, Substance 3D Painter, Designer, and Stager, as well as Adobe Substance 3D asset library, were also used to create this prop:

Earlier, Cino also showcased a colorful embroidery material created with Substance 3D Designer, a collection of photorealistic baseball gloves, a beautiful stylized ivy-covered mech prop made entirely with Substance 3D software, and a Chinese-style embroidery shader, and joined 80 Level to discuss the workflow behind the Stylized Parametrized Forest project.
