Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Is Coming in February

The remake of the original Tomb Raider features expanded environments and modernized gameplay.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, an upcoming remake of the first game from 1996, received a release date trailer and a glimpse of the updated gameplay.

Lara Croft's adventures return on February 12, 2027, with improved visuals and modernized mechanics.

"From your first plunge into Peru’s Lost Valley to your first glimpse at the crumbling ruins of Greece, every environment has been expanded with stunning new visuals, an immersive soundscape, and modernized gameplay that makes exploration, combat, and puzzles feel fresh."

The game's puzzles have been rebuilt from the ground up by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog. They also expanded environments, so you will no longer be moving between self-contained rooms.

"Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis opens those spaces into semi-connected environments you can traverse, explore, and approach from new angles. Every space is designed as a real place first, rich with secrets, collectibles, and resources to reward those who go looking. Even returning favorites like the cog puzzle come back reimagined and grounded in the world around them. The result is a Peru brought fully to life, with the scope, history, and personality to make every iconic moment unforgettable."

"This is the adventure fans remember," the developers promise, "reimagined in ways that weren’t possible 30 years ago," with new surprises that will delight even those who have played the original game dozens of times.

Part of this world, however, was created using AI, which put the developers under fire. Players spotted a notice on Steam, saying: "AI-assisted tools were used during development to support some early exploration and temporary development content. Any AI-assisted assets were either replaced or refined by humans in order to maintain the creative and artistic vision of the development team."

Crystal Dynamics told Eurogamer that AI tools were used to help "iterate on ideas faster and more efficiently," but the final product is human-crafted, the studio claimed. "Our goal is to empower the creativity and flexibility of our developers to deliver the highest-quality experiences for players everywhere."

Legacy of Atlantis offers two editions, which you can already preorder. Standard Edition has the game and a Survivor outfit for $59.99, while Deluxe Edition additionally provides a 48-hour early launch access, a Parisian Fugitive outfit, and a post-launch DLC story pack for $69.99.
