Back in late 2023, Andry Dédouze, a renowned 3D Artist known for his retrofuturistic animations and one-of-a-kind art style, took digital hand-painting to a whole new level by combining his favorite 3D software, Blender, with real-life gouache painting and blending real brush strokes with a procedural shader to then project the result onto a 3D mesh, thus crafting a stunning Blender animation which you can see below:
Recently, Dédouze pleasantly surprised the 3D art community with an update on the project, unveiling some gorgeous new hand-painted animations. This time, the maestro depicted the character moving their head up and down and set up some appealing new painterly light interactions, achieved by alternating the Normals:
Although little has been disclosed about the methodology behind the latest animation experiments, the artist highly recommended delving into tutorials by Cody Gindy and Alan Wyatt to learn more about painterly effects in Blender:
Previously, Dédouze also shed some light on his collaboration with the fashion design company UNIQLO, demonstrating some mesmerizing concepts and backgrounds drawn for a UNIQLO commercial with Blender's Grease Pencil.
