Try This Surface Wrapping Blender Tool For Free

Jörg Grubmüller launched WrapKit.

Jörg Grubmüller, the creator of the viral LimbKit tool for quickly blocking out realistic hands and feet, has introduced his latest fully procedural and non-destructive solution: WrapKit. This Geometry Nodes-powered system is designed to accurately wrap one object onto the surface of another, minimizing common issues like distortion, flattening, or missed projections.

According to the developer, WrapKit differs from traditional approaches such as Shrinkwrap by using a procedural walker algorithm that intelligently moves across surfaces, ensuring consistent contact and clean results. It's said to handle complex shapes, tight curves, and allow for artistic control.

Jörg on his approach:

"When you just project a geometry onto a curved surface, the projection will be distorted and, in extreme cases, also occluded or will not hit at all. My approach was to just project one single point. If there is no hit, we just move the point to the nearest surface.

Now we start adding points in the tangent direction, traversing along the surface until we reach the length of the projected geo. We do this in the negative tangent direction as well. Now we have a curve that is sticking smoothly to the surface, and do the same traversing thing for all the curve points perpendicular to the curve tangent until we reach the maximum width of the projection object. Then we turn these curves into a surface and generate UVs. And now we can bring the original surface into the UV space of the generated surface flow geo."

The developer is launching an alpha version of WrapKit for free and is eager for user feedback. He also plans to release an accompanying YouTube tutorial to help get users started.
