Turn Reference Footage Into Animation Curves With This Maya Tool

It allows you to extract motion directly from a real reference and use it as a foundation for your animation work.

KZ_Tracker by Konstantinos Zacharakis lets you track points in video footage and convert them into usable animation curves. While the developer describes it as "simpler/faster 2D mocap," it's primarily designed for quick blocking and motion reference rather than final mocap output or polished animation.

What it does is track points from video and generate TX and TY curves depending on the perspective. It extracts real timing and rough spacing from the footage, giving you immediate motion data you can work with inside Maya.

KZ_Tracker works especially well when integrated into a layered animation workflow. To use it, you need to load your video and cache it, then create tracking points by clicking directly on the footage and track them through the sequence. After that, you generate curves onto locators, and finally, you apply the result and refine it until it fits your needs.

KZ_Tracker is compatible with Windows and Maya 2023 and later. It's available as a one-time purchase with no subscription required.
