Having troubles with layering materials in Substance Designer? Here's a guide on how to simulate the result and bake out the heightmap using Houdini.
You don't have to worry about the intersections of shapes, just set up a simple simulation and save the result in a real-time heightmap. Then, use this heightmap in Substance Designer to create a material.

The guide was provided by Simin Verstraete, a tech Artist who loves building procedural tools and assets. He's a master of procedural approaches, knowing how to build 3D models with speed and flexibility.
