Two-Dimensional Cartoony Cafe in Seoul

This café will make you feel like you stepped into a comic book or if being more precise – a webtoon.

This café will make you feel like you stepped into a comic book or if being more precise – a webtoon.

This Korean 2D cafe is called Yeonnam-Dong 223-14 and located right in Seoul. Flat mugs, chairs, tables, and flattened shirts on the laundry line – every little detail in this cafe reminds you of a comic book.

The cafe’s owner , J.S. Lee, was inspired by pop culture and Korean cartoons especially W, a web cartoon fantasy about a man caught between real life and a cartoon. While that show lasted only 16 episodes, Lee’s cafe, though still young, seems to have staying power. That’s partly due to his another reason: the cafe was designed to be as Instagrammable as possible.

It’s hard to imagine but the cafe is just a 20-seater managed by only one person.

The menu is quite lean, with signature drinks such as the W Salty Latte (6,000 Won), W Coffee (6,000 Won), Green Tea Latte (5,000 Won), Choco Choco Latte (5,000 Won) and Vanilla Café Latte (5,000 Won).

That is between $4.50 and $5.40.

People really like the concept idea of this cafe. You can see it from the pictures they upload on Instagram:

The cafe is quite popular with citizens and tourists. It also has 19.6K followers on Instagram.
