Ubisoft Apparently Forgot to Record a Human Voice for One of Prince of Persia's NPCs

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown will feature an NPC that was voiced by a text-to-speech program.

Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, developed by Ubisoft, is scheduled for release on January 15, 2024. This upcoming game is going to be the biggest in the series for some time, but there seems to be an odd issue with one of the voices when the game launches.

According to IGN reports, one of the NPCs, a tree spirit named Kalux, is voiced by a text-to-speech program. This seems to be a mistake by Ubisoft, as all other NPCs have voice actors.

IGN has reached the developer and asked for a statement. Well, it seems that it was indeed a mistake made by the company since they confirmed it. According to their statement, when making a game, some teams use temporary assets, like text-to-speech voiceovers, until the final recordings are ready.

"The English version of these 8 lines of text for this character were not properly implemented but will be swapped out and updated with an upcoming patch. Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown is fully voice-overed in English, French, Spanish, German and Farsi with more than 12,000 lines in total. It is also subtitled in Italian, Portuguese-Brazilian, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Arabic, Polish and Japanese," stated Ubisoft.

Ubisoft says that we need to wait for some time as the patch will be released in late January or February 2024 to replace the AI voiceover with a human voice for Kalux. For those buying the game at launch, you'll have to get used to the AI voice for a couple of weeks.

This mistake makes me wonder if Ubisoft intentionally made one of their NPCs with an AI voice to check if anyone noticed at all, or whether it was a genuine error that the company is so eager to fix. What do you think?

Last year, Ubisoft accidentally placed an advertisement, interrupting gameplay in Assassin's Creed Odyssey. Later the company stated that it was a technical glitch.
