Ubisoft Reintroduced 6-Year-Old Game about Mech Balls

BattleCore Arena is back!

Ubisoft works in mysterious ways, and it proved it again with the announcement of BattleCore Arena – a physics-based game where you play as a mechanized ball trying to eliminate its opponents.

The weird thing about this is that the game is not new, it was developed by Cosmic Ray Studio and released in 2017. After a while, it was removed from Steam, so you can't find it there already (yet). It seems like Ubisoft decided BattleCore Arena deserves a second chance and can become a player favorite.

So what do we know about the title? It's a "free-to-play competitive platform shooter where gravity mastery is the key to victory." You have weapons and abilities to help you push other cores out of the arena.

"Playing as a spherical core, players will enter multi-tiered maps and contend with gravitational forces as they roll, dash, jump, and double-jump to outmaneuver their opponents with physics-based movement. Players will also be able to eject (or be ejected by) their opponents as they wield a multi-faceted arsenal, featuring ranged weapons for close-range impact or mid-distance power, as well as perks to help them evade danger, knock out enemies, or aid their allies."

BattleCore Arena will feature several competitive modes:

  • Backup, a 3v3 team deathmatch;
  • Golden Core, in which possession of the eponymous Core is the path to victory;
  • Free-for-all, a fast-paced way to test your solo skills or warm up.

As expected, you can customize your balls by changing their armor, lights, banners, elimination explosions, and more.

The game is being developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux this time, and you can join the playtest running from February 1 through February 5.
