It is unclear whether they mean the rumored Far Cry extraction shooter or the series as a whole.
Last year's talks about future Far Cry installments departing from the "Far Cry formula" defined by the franchise's arguably most iconic entry, Far Cry 3, and carried on through all subsequent mainline titles, have resurfaced, with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stating that they plan to expand Far Cry's multiplayer component going forward.

Speaking at the New Global Sport Conference in Saudi Arabia (via Game File), Guillemot revealed that Ubisoft's goal for Far Cry is to "bring the multiplayer aspects more predominantly pushed" in order to keep players engaged for longer.
From his statement, it is unclear whether the CEO was referring only to Project Maverick, a Far Cry extraction shooter the studio is reportedly developing behind the scenes, or to the franchise as a whole. If it's the latter, it may indicate that the series is headed for the biggest single-player-to-multiplayer transformation the industry has seen – one that would easily outshine that of Call of Duty, which, for those unaware, was largely single-player focused in its first three installments before 2007's Modern Warfare made multiplayer the centerpiece.
Either way, it's evident that, as of now, it's impossible to know what the future holds for Far Cry. With multiplayer plans in play, Ubisoft's ongoing economic troubles, and Tencent now having a say in the franchise's direction – with the potential to gain full control of it in 2-5 years – it seems the only way to know for sure what forthcoming Far Cry games will look like is to have either a time machine or the power of precognition.
