Umbral Core: a 2.5D Fighting Game Set in a Dark Fantasy World

It features rollback netcode, smooth animations with uncapped FPS, and an engaging combat system for players across all skill levels.

Meet Umbral Core – an upcoming 2.5D fighting game set in a dark fantasy world. It features rollback netcode, a way of improving latency, smoothest animations with uncapped FPS, and an engaging combat system for players across all skill levels.

"The world is broken. A fragmented shadow of what it once was. The blackened haze of the Miasma lingering; spreading slowly but surely. Amid this foul air resting within a den of ruin, lies an artifact by many names, as ancient as the Elder Days themselves; the Umbral Core. For some an omen of ruin; a pagan relic, best left deep beneath the earth. For others, a call to glory; no… destiny."

Umbral Core offers a set of movements for the best fighting experience: aside from walking, jumping, and running, you can back dash, air dash, and perform a high jump. You can also defend yourself by blocking or breaking a throw and attack with a Normal, Special, or Unique attack.

Naturally, the game has a combo system: you can create chain attacks by consecutively performing a light, medium, hard, and Unique attacks. A more advanced version of a chain is a link, which requires precise timing. There are also auto-combos, they are performed by pressing the same button in quick succession while being close to the opponent and don't deal as much damage as the previous combos.

Umbral Core was inspired by Darkstalkers, Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, King of Fighters, Tekken, Castlevania, and Bloodborne. The development started as a passion project two years ago, and the creators are now working on the alpha version to present before the start of the Kickstarter campaign at the end of the year.

Umbral Core will be released for Playstation 4, Playstation 5, and PC. The team says they aim to work on the game over the course of two years after the Kickstarter campaign has ended.
