Unity Indie Devs Shared How They Made Fully Diggable Terrain

Watch noOne Studio's breakdown.

Drill and Delve is an upcoming game from noOne Studio, featuring physics-based gameplay, wall-walking exploration, laser tools, and more. One of its standout features is the fully diggable terrain, and in a recent video, the team revealed that it's actually built using voxels, taking heavy inspiration from Minecraft's approach.

The terrain also incorporates tessellation. During generation, they create a low-resolution collision mesh alongside a tessellated mesh. A displacement map, powered by a custom Shader Graph shader, is then applied to the tessellated mesh, adding intricate surface detail.
