Vampire Survivors Developer on Its Design & Sudden Success

Luca Galante talks about his phenomenal game in this new documentary from Noclip.

To be honest, I first played Vampire Survivors long after it got countless clones on game stores. Its strange graphics and repetitive gameplay just didn't appeal to me, but after it became impossible to ignore its crazy popularity, I decided to give it a chance. It was clear why players love this game almost immediately.

If you'd like to not only play it but also learn about the development process behind this hit, check out Noclip's new documentary, where Vampire Survivors' creator Luca Galante discusses his career struggles, the game's design, content, DLC, and sudden success.

You'd probably be most interested in how such a simple game became the talk of the industry. Galante recalls that one day someone told him that Splattercatgaming covered Vampire Survivors on their YouTube channel where they play various indie games (I definitely recommend this channel if you're into indies.) After this, sales started picking up, and a one-man company had to grow to keep up with players' bug reports and demands.

Eventually, the team had to even downgrade some stuff to "make it crappier" and "replicate the exact look of the original game."

There is much more to learn about Vampire Survivors, so watch the full documentary here and don't forget to join our 80 Level Talent platform and our Telegram channel, follow us on ThreadsInstagramTwitter, and LinkedIn, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
