XDefiant Is Delayed Because Ubisoft Is Chasing Call of Duty

Here's to another multiplayer shooter.

Do you remember Ubisoft's XDefiant? If not, I don't blame you: the game was announced in 2021 but has been in some kind of limbo since then – it was supposed to be released in summer 2023 but it Xbox and PlayStation certification tests, then the developers aimed for October, but as you can (not) see, there's no such game.

According to Insider Gaming, XDefiant targeted the last week of February 2024 – still nothing. Ubisoft’s Q3 2024 earnings report mentioned the end of Q4 2024 (March 31), but there is no news on the shooter a week from this date, so I doubt we'll see it that soon. On the other hand, its Executive Producer Mark Rubin promised an update "this coming week."

So what is the reason behind all these delays? Insider Gaming's sources claim the executives are trying to copy Call of Duty, and it frustrates the developers.

"The neverending hunt to chase COD and add pointless stuff always breaks the current build," said one of the sources.

Well, at least there is some action going on, so the game will likely find its release. One day.

XDefiant is a free-to-play multiplayer shooter game that offers a selection of factions and classes, each equipped with unique abilities and weapons. You can choose your faction and participate in 6v6 fights across a range of maps in a near-future United States setting.

The game should be launched on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. Read more about Ubisoft's struggle here and join our 80 Level Talent platform and our Telegram channel, follow us on InstagramTwitter, and LinkedIn, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.
