You Become a Flying Spark of Thought in This Pixel-Art Platformer Based on Pinball

Reliable Plumbing Services released their pinball vertical climber, where you travel through the world of Western philosophy.

In this vertical climber from Reliable Plumbing Services, inspired by the classic pinball game, you play as a spark of thought flying across the world of Western philosophy. Just like life itself, Fallosophy is unforgiving: the game doesn't have saves, so if you fall, you start it all over again, meaning you might lose somewhere between a few seconds and several hours of gameplay. Is it even worth trying to begin with then, right?

In the game, you have to learn to make use of flippers, plungers, and momentum for a more precise and swift flight. You will climb through the eras of philosophy, from ancient times to the modern world. "Each level is both physical and conceptual. Platforms crumble like forgotten doctrines, ideas linger in the soundscape, and progress feels like revelation," developers explain cryptically.

The team drew inspiration from Pinball Spire, another modern pinball-based game where the goal, like in Fallosophy, is to reach the top. In Fallosophy, however, each level was designed to be more open, more like a platformer. Plus, unlike Pinball Spire, Fallosophy does not allow you to gain any special abilities or collect upgrades as you go – the game is entirely skill-based and only uses 2 keys for all the mechanics.

"You will not unlock abilities or revisit earlier areas. Progress moves upward, not outward. There are no upgrades, no win button, and no shortcuts to enlightenment. There are no enemies to fight or projectiles to dodge. Only gravity, momentum, and your own impatience," developers warn. The game wants to get you to reflect, not to go dopamine chasing after meaningless coins, skins, boosts, and rewards.

The game was developed by an independent 4-person team. According to the developers, it took them "around 1.5 years of part-time work to make the game."

Fallosophy is finally available on Steam. The team is also planning to release it on Nintendo Switch sometime in Q4 this year.
