It might get messy though.

When Valve announced Counter-Strike 2, an improved version of its renowned first-person shooter, fans were ecstatic, although after its release they started reporting multiple issues immediately: FPS, freezes, and other technical problems wouldn't let fans enjoy the game fully. As a result, following periods of ups and downs, Counter-Strike 2 reviews became Mixed.
Many criticized the company for replacing their beloved CS:GO with this newcomer, but there is a way to ditch all those visually-enhanced maps, volumetric smoke grenades, sub-tick update architecture, and new high-resolution VFX of Counter-Strike 2 and go back to the roots. However, you might not appreciate what you find.
As PC Gamer reported, you can launch the legacy version of the shooter if you follow these steps:
- Install Counter-Strike 2 on Steam.
- Right-click on Counter-Strike 2 in your Steam library and open its Properties.
- In the Betas tab, select "csgo_legacy: Legacy Version of CS:GO" in the dropdown menu.

As you might have guessed, this way you'll get a limited, frozen build of the game, without official matchmaking, the support for which ends on January 1, 2024. After the date, the game will still be available, "but certain functionality that relies on compatibility with the Game Coordinator (e.g., access to inventory) may degrade and/or fail," says Valve.
No official matchmaking means you'll have to be content with playing with friends or using community servers. PC Gamer warns that these servers might not update properly, but it's worth a shot.
What may turn you off the idea altogether is the content of custom games. There is a reason why people create their own servers, so be ready to find bizarre controls, maps, or characters from Final Fantasy, The Legend of Zelda, Apex Legends, and other crazy stuff.
But I think it all doesn't really matter for hardcore CS:GO fans, especially if your hate for Counter-Strike 2 is so great that you want to go through all this hassle.
