You Will Want This Cool Dynamic Hexagon Shield Effect in Your Game
Vitalii Lupul's shield reacts to impact beautifully.
Hexagon shields might not be a novelty in gaming, especially in sci-fi, but Vitalii Lupul's effect is a step higher than your average assets. He used the Niagara Grid2D system in Unreal Engine to make the shield dynamic, reacting to bullets and other incoming attacks.
According to the creator, the blueprint only sends a short 1-0 impulse, and Niagara handles the entire behavior procedurally.
"To make each impact feel alive – smoothly appearing, reaching its peak, and fading out – without timers, manual resets, or external logic. Just a clean, fully procedural system driven by real-time data."
Lupul notes that this setup forms a foundation for effects like shield reactions, energy pulses, shockwaves, heat distortions, decals, and other reactive VFX elements.
